UPDATE! Eastern District Training Team Announcement - 2020 Provincial Spring Games
Congratulations to the team members for being named to the District Training Squad for the 2020 Provincial Spring Games. The Provincial Spring Games will be hosted from May 21 – 23, 2020 in Waterloo Region with almost 1000 team members from across the province competing in the sports of Basketball, Powerlifting, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Swimming and Ten Pin Bowling. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS 2019 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Awards
It’s time to nominate and select 2019 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial awards winners. We are once again looking for deserving athletes and volunteers in various categories, so please nominate any deserving candidates. To nominate athletes and volunteers please visit our Provincial Awards Site and submit your nomination on the online forms provided. Please note that the deadline date is Friday, May 24, 2019. https://www1.specialolympicsontario.com/provincial-sport-awards/ Please share this information with your community. We wish to compile a list of candidates from all over the province. This is a great way to recognize people in your community who make a significant difference. All Provincial Award Winners will be recognized at SOO’s 2019 Annual General Meeting, and subsequently nominated for recognition at the national level through Special Olympics Canada. UPDATE! - 2019 Provincial Winter Games/5-Pin Bowling/Floor Hockey - Eastern District Announcement
The latest round of updates to the Eastern District Training Squads for the 2019 Provincial Winter Games, Provincial 5-Pin Bowling Championships, and Provincial Floor Hockey Championships have been announced. The Training Squad announcements can be found in full at the links below. The 2019 Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games will take place in Sault Ste. Marie from January 31st to February 3rd, the Provincial Floor Hockey Championships will take place in Toronto from May 14th to 17th, and the Provincial 5-Pin Bowling Championships will take place in Oshawa from June 6th to 7th. Coaching Athletes With A Disability - Free NCCP E-Learning
The CAO has extended the deadline for taking their Coaching Athletes with a Disibility eModule for FREE until March 31st. Ottawa Curling Coach honored by Ontario Curling Association
On October 21, 2017, Doug Kreviazuk, Chair of the Ontario Curling Association presented Marian Dupont with the highest Ontario Curling Association award - Honorary Lifetime Achievement award for Marian's contribution to curling. Marian was the founder of the Special Olympics City View Curling program in Ottawa in 1998 and has remained a dedicated coaching volunteer since. Marian will be leading the Special Olympics Ontario, Region 1 Tankard Playdown at the Manotick Curling club on December 2nd. Marian's red blazer (pictured below) indicates her membership in the Governor General's Curling Club. Marian is the sitting President of the club for 2016-2017. The main focus of The Governor General's Curling Club has been to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to curling, whether it be locally, provincially or nationally, not only as competitive curlers, but also as builders and administrators. Some of its members are legends of the game. One of its objectives is to promote the growth of curling in Canada and preserve its history.
