Ottawa Curling Coach honored by Ontario Curling Association

On October 21, 2017, Doug Kreviazuk, Chair of the Ontario Curling Association presented Marian Dupont with the highest Ontario Curling Association award - Honorary Lifetime Achievement award for Marian's contribution to curling.  

Marian was the founder of the Special Olympics City View Curling program in Ottawa in 1998 and has remained a dedicated coaching volunteer since.  Marian will be leading the Special Olympics Ontario, Region 1 Tankard Playdown at the Manotick Curling club on December 2nd.

Marian's red blazer (pictured below) indicates her membership in the Governor General's Curling Club. Marian is the sitting President of the club for 2016-2017. The main focus of The Governor General's Curling Club has been to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to curling, whether it be locally, provincially or nationally, not only as competitive curlers, but also as builders and administrators.  Some of its members are legends of the game.   One of its objectives is to promote the growth of curling in Canada and preserve its history.  

The award was presented at the Governor General's Curling Club AGM and Luncheon at the Ottawa Hunt Club.

Special Olympics Ontario- Brockville & Area Recognized at Chamber of Commerce Gala

We are very proud to announce that Special Olympics Ontario – Brockville & Area were awarded the Community Excellence Award at the Brockville Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 Award of Excellence Gala held on Thursday November 9th.

The community Excellence Award honors a person, business or organization that:

        • Demonstrates a notable contribution to the quality of life in the Brockville community
        • Volunteers time and/or financial support to those activities that enrich the community
        • Promotes a culture that puts an emphasis on community involvement
        • Partners/supports with not-for-profit organizations, charities or other community efforts

On hand to receive the award for Special Olympic Ontario – Brockville & Area were, Community Coordinator, Lynda Cavanagh; Sport Technical Coordinator, Paul McNamee; Council Member at Large Dave Cavanagh; and Community Coach Frank Condron

World Games Athletes From Eastern Ontario Bringing Home Medals!

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the four Eastern District athletes who competed at Winter World Games in Austria!  Their hard work and efforts not only in Austria but in the months leading up to games have paid off with fabulous results.

Special thanks go out to all the coaches, volunteers and families who gave their time and attention to these athletes in order that they would be well prepared and trained for competition at the World games.

On March 3, 2017, Special Olympics Ontario – Greater Ottawa will be holding its inaugural Indulge Ottawa event at Sala San Marco in Ottawa, Ontario.

Indulge Ottawa will feature all-inclusive sampling from a number of amazing restaurants, breweries, wineries, and additional specialty companies, to indulge every palate. Your entry includes all sampling and a reserved seat to enjoy the evening’s festivities (group bookings available). 

The talented entertainment roster is quickly growing, with a popular local act in talks to provide music for the occasion. We’re building some extensive and exciting Live and Silent Auctions, hosted by Ryan Watson from Raising the Bid. Greg Murdoch Takes Gold Medal at SONA Golf in Florida

Congratulations to Gregory Murdoch of Special Olympics Arnprior for taking the Gold medal in his division at the Special Olympics North America Golf Tournament held September 29th to October 1st in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  
Greg was one of twenty Special Olympics Ontario athletes who attended the tournament and the only athlete from the Eastern District.

Congratulations Greg and Great Job!
